Terms of Service

The service

Honest.Education provides an essay certification service. We analyze submitted essays for AI authorship, collect a sworn attestation from a responsible adult, and issue a certificate with a unique H-number if the essay passes our review. The H-number is publicly verifiable.

What we certify

We certify that at the time of submission, an essay passed our certification process and that a responsible adult signed a sworn attestation affirming the essay was the named student's own human work, free from generative AI authorship.

We do not certify essay quality. We make no representations about any college admissions outcome. We do not represent or guarantee that any institution will accept, recognize, or act on a certification.

Pricing and refund policy

The current fee is $399 per essay certification. Payment is due at checkout before the certification process begins.

All fees are non-refundable. Our certification review is a resource-intensive process; the resources we invest are expended regardless of the certification outcome. If an essay does not pass our review, we provide feedback and one opportunity to revise and resubmit at no additional charge.

The sworn attestation

The attestation is a legally meaningful sworn statement. By signing it, the attestor affirms under penalty of perjury that the essay is entirely the named student's own human work, free from generative AI authorship, to the best of their knowledge.

Providing a false attestation is a serious matter. We reserve the right to revoke any certificate if we have evidence that the attestation was given falsely.

If the student is under 18, the attestation must be signed by a parent, legal guardian, or other adult with authority. A minor may not sign the attestation.

Certificate integrity

Certificates are immutable once issued. We do not edit issued certificates. Certificates may be revoked with a reason and timestamp recorded. A revoked certificate is reflected immediately on the verification page.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Submit an essay as the student's own work knowing that it was written in whole or in part by generative AI
• Provide false information in the sworn attestation
• Attempt to enumerate, brute-force, or scrape the verification database
• Use the service in a way that violates any applicable law
